Homosexuality, Africa, Absent Fathers and Don Miller

May 18, 2006

In the last podcast, Donald Miller discussed the three largest issues that will face the church in the future. Those issues were homosexuality, the situation in Africa and absent fathers. He had some really interesting thoughts on the topic. Regardless of whether you have listened, we want to know what you think and how the church should respond to these three crucial issues in particular.

Invisible Children - Global Night Commute

May 15, 2006

On April 29, 2006, over 70,0000 thousand people in 130 cities across the country joined together for Invisible Children's Global Night Commute. Walking from their homes and schools to a downtown location, they slept outside, joining the invisible children in northern Uganda, whose nightly commute is one of necessity and protection from the longest running war in Africa. Participants wrote letters to President Bush and to their congressmen, urging our government to take a stand and put an end to child abduction, the need for night commuting, and the war in northern Uganda---one of the worst crises in the world today. Invisible Children's story is an example of the power of a few young leaders' desire to change the world and the courage to take action. For more information on Invisible Children and how you can get involved, visit www.invisiblechildren.com. Tell us your stories from the Global Night Commute.

Is Sleep Spiritual?

May 12, 2006

Lauren Winner thinks so. Catalyst Lab Speaker, Lauren Winner explains that "to sleep, long and soundly, is to place our trust in Him without whom we labor in vain." In today's world, the very idea of embracing sleep seems counter-cultural, especially for leaders who are asked to create more, care more, and serve more. Here is Lauren's argument: "Sleeping well may also be part of Christian discipleship, at least in our time and place. For not only might a counter-cultural embrace of sleep witness to values higher than 'the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things.' A night of good sleep - a week, or month, or year of good sleep - also testifies to the basic Christian story of Creation. We are creatures, and we are creatures with bodies that are finite and contingent. The unarguable demands that our bodies make for sleep are a good reminder that we are mere creatures, not the Creator"... click here to keep reading. So... sleep as a spiritual discipline... any thoughts?
