Whiteboard Recap, videos!

May 22, 2008

Mark Batterson may have best summed up the 2008 Whiteboard Sessions in a comment he made earlier today during an interview with Ed Stetzer, "It's about turning the kaleidoscope a little bit to reveal a new patter, a new story... " New thoughts, new ideas, innovative, and challenging - yes, it was a day chalked full of front line insight from some of the most influential leaders currently in the church. conferencechannel.org is flat out amazing, and if you missed any or all of today's events make sure to browse through the entire day and check out highlights. Hmmm, conferencechannel.org at Catalyst??? Absolutely!

On a side note, I'm not sure if I have ever been surrounded by so many bloggers in one room, at one time. Before the Catalyst Road Trip the only thing I associated with the term "blog" was the red squiggly line that pops up in Word reminding me that I've misspelled another word... or that I have, once again, tried to make up a new word. With the Road Trip Blog I find myself discovering a seemingly never ending world full of blogging do's and don't's (see, another made up word... but it should have two apostrophes, right?!) There were blogging giants at Whiteboard today, and it was fun to have a chance to meet and talk with some of them. I'm learning a lot from these guys...

Here is a list of Bloggers Represented Today at Whiteboard (each name is linked to their own personal blog, huge thanks to Terrace Crawford for this list) Gotta give a little love to some new friends that I had a chance to spend time with today - Boyd Bettis (sorry for not emailing you back :)), Carlos Whittaker, Tim Stevens, Scott Magdalein, Brad Abare, Scott McLellan, Todd Rhoades, & Ed Stetzer... and it's always great to see Jay Hardwick, Joshua Symonette, Chris Elrod, Tadd Grandstaff, Tony Morgan, Scott Hodge, & Perry Noble. Wow, that's a list right there... and if you ever want to spend some time reading GREAT blogs, check out these guys!

Alright, here's a little fun video from this morning's introduction to Whiteboard... the Catalyst Vanagon can inspire an array of reactions! Before signing off, thanks to Rob Thomas and the guys from Igniter Media Group for hanging out with us and enduring the new Indiana Jones movie, wish the movie would have been better!

Back on the road headed home to Atlanta tomorrow morning!

Catalyst Accepting Submissions for Art Installation

This is an open invitation to all artists. I would like to personally invite you to join in this collaborative art project for Catalyst, Artists Together.

In an age that is increasingly creating individualism and an unconscious separation from true community, we are fighting back. This year at Catalyst, we want to bring communities together for bigger ideas than individuals could do on their own. So, we are calling all artists to join in this fresh story of intentional community. We are calling artists from all over the nation to submit their artistic expression of what "together"" means to them. Our hope is to create an art installation of the work created as an exhibit at Catalyst in October. STOP what you're doing - right now, contact Jeff Shinabarger and join the movement. Here are some of the pieces we have so far:

Corey Jamison at The Plow

Marshall, from St. Mars

Daniel Homrich, Meet Justice

Rick Warren Stealth Conference

Rick Warren's stealthy, invite-only Purpose Driven Network Summit is happening this week. There's been all kinds of coverage of the event across Twitter, blogs and UStream.

Perry Noble took a TON of notes on Rick's sessions. Here are some of the highlights:

You have to decide whether or not you want to impress people or influence people. You can impress them from a distanceā€š but can only influence them when you get up close and they can see you warts and all.

When you are not authentic it only gets worse for you that's why many guys have to keep changing churches.

If you forget that it's not about you then you will crumble under criticism. If you are going to call the shots you are going to take the shots. The most blessed ministries WILL be criticized and not from unbelievers but from believers!!!

About 15-20 years ago God gave us a new tool the internet. The internet was NOT given to us for pornography it was given to us to expand God's kingdom!

Check-out the rest of his notes: here & here.

Interestingly, there is also live webcast coverage of the conference here. And there's also some backstage interviews, hosted by Tony Morgan (live) and DJ Chuang. I didn't think Tony Morgan sounded like that!

AND there's some hashtag twitter action happening here: booyah.

Logging An Official Protest!

May 20, 2008

Mr. Brad Lomenick, a.k.a. "Mr. I'm Too Good for the Vanagon," left me to drive the Highway Highlighter by myself up to Virginia so he can take a flight on Wednesday. We have THOUSANDS of people emailing and calling every week begging for the chance to drive, or at least ride shotgun, in the Catalyst Vanagon. (no we don't) It's borderline impossible to keep the public from mobbing us when we take it out on the road. (no it's not) I can't begin to count the insane offers I've received to provide personal Vanagon tours. (yes I can)

And Brad has the audacity to trade an adventurous trip in the Vanagon for a stuffy plane flight in coach?! I mean, come on, the theme this year is "Together," and Brad has chosen to keep us apart. Is there something inherently wrong here? This picture tells the tale of today's less than acceptable road trip to Virginia -

an empty seat, a tragedy that did not have to be...

This Is An Official Road Trip Protest!
