Like diamonds in the rough, get it? As a follow up to yesterday's post on Top Tweeters, here's a list of lesser known leaders, that are on Twitter, that are doing interesting things in the Church - not so much the big Mega Senior Pastor/Authors. This is just a brief, top of mind, list. What I’ve Learned From My Time at Catalyst

July 29, 2008

It's official. I've been working at Catalyst as the Innovation and Experience Director for the past 60 days, and my perception of the organization has been turned on its head. I've been collecting insights from my time here so far, and I thought I'd share them with you:

  • The Catalyst team works extremely hard, but they also party like rock stars.
  • Brad Lomenick plus a megaphone is a bad combination. (Not to mention tight pants.)
  • Ken Coleman is the funniest guy on the planet... in a dark humor sort of way.
  • You can get in trouble here for not dreaming big enough. "Realistic" is a bad word.
  • The prayer times we have on Monday mornings would encourage you big-time.
  • Everyone here credits the supernatural hand of God for the success of our events.
  • I still haven't met the iconic Gabe Lyons.
  • Chad Johnson, Dwaye Melton, and LV Hanson genuinely care for church leaders...
  • But they would sell each other out in a heartbeat to win a competition. =)
  • Catalyst Filter is about to become the premiere resource for church leaders. Trust me.
  • We own more web URLs than you could imagine.
  • We track more church leaders than any research firm on the planet.
  • When it's "spirit week" at Catalyst, you'd better get in the spirit... or else. =)
  • Brad Lomenick could get in touch with Hannah Montanna if he really wanted to.

That's a small sampling, but enough to give you a picture of what it's like around Catalyst headquarters.

What's the culture like around your office?

Road Trip Voices - Marty Holman (Holden, MA)

July 28, 2008

On July 10th we began our road trip to the northeast and invited anyone along our path to contact us so we could stop by and say hi - Marty Holman called me while we were driving through Ohio, and although we did not get a chance to see Marty, I did have a chance to tlak with him on the phone.  I asked Marty if he would send me a note highlighting their story...I wanted to share it with you:

Marty Holman & His Wife"It’s Marty Holman.  I’m a pastor here in New England and a super Catalyst fan.  I’ve been attending the Catalyst Conference for the last 4 years and am bringing a team of 5 from our church staff again this year!  I’ve been the pastor for just under a year of Fellowship Church in Holden, Massachusetts, which is a suburb of Worcester (the 2nd largest city in New England, believe it or not, with 172,680 people).  Previously I was an assistant pastor at this church for 9 years.  My prayer is that people would connect and be led into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ here in the Northeast just like is happening in other parts of the US and the world.  But it will take time and patience, and the willingness to step back and get out of the way to watch God use us in ways we never thought possible.

Fellowship Church Holden, MAA few months ago I put out a search for pastors in New England who blog and who are trying to reach this area in similar ways, and could only find one pastor (on google, mind you) that was headed in a similar direction.  This is a hard area with a lot of opposition. Most of that opposition, by the way, is from Christians who are stuck in deep-seeded religion, and are afraid to reach the unchurched with the gospel of Jesus Christ in a relevant way.  But there are pastors out here who are doing some amazing things to reach people...please pray for us that we continue to accomplish the vision God has given us here and that together we could start something that would radically change this area for Christ.  The potential is great!"

Thanks Marty for getting in touch with us!  If you find that we are in your area please don't hesitate to contact me directly (lv.hanson@catalystspace.com or 404-839-0194).  Your stories fuel the front line of the church; its an honor to share this journey with you!!!  Stay tuned, this week is planning week for upcoming road trips so check back for updates on our road trip map.  I can tell you we have ONE more extended road trip in the works and several local trips planned over the next 8 weeks.  Hope to hear from you soon!!!

T-MO’S CAREER PATH

Tony Morgan shares with young leaders his career path - from print shop monkey to Executive Director of Awesome at New Spring Church.

Before I tell you how to get from here to there, let me share how I got from there to here:

  1. My first job (besides mowing lawns) was working in a print shop helping to prepare orders and assist with delivery. All I can remember is that I despised the collating machine.
  2. Then, I took a promotion with Sears. I sold men’s clothing. It’s hilarious to think that I used to measure old men for lame suits.
    ...

So, as you can see, it took about 12 years in various marketplace roles before God transitioned me into ministry. And, it’s taken me not quite 10 years in ministry to get to the place where I am today.

Interesting stuff! Read the whole post ...

How did you get from there to here?
