The Church is Moving Online

September 29, 2008

Obviously the internet has transformed our society/culture in so many ways. So it's not surprising that it's changing the way we do church. Thanks to Web 2.0, communication and collaboration between Christian leaders has exploded. Online communities grow more and more every year while social networking sites multiply like rabbits. Hundreds of churches offer recorded video messages online. Dozens offer live webcasts. A few also offer a special web interface for building community online complete with online campus pastors.

The advent of streaming online video has now enabled websites like mogulus.com and ustream.tv to connect people in a more realistic way. Last week LifeShare coordinated and connected a couple hundred people online to share their faith with friends and worship together.

It seems like a year ago, very few would have seriously considered "church" online. Now it seems like it's already happening.

What do you think of church online? How can we use the internet to become a more unified body?

Pictoral Recap of Our Last Road Trip (part 2 of 2)

September 27, 2008

Time for Part 2 of this pictoral recap from our last road trip!  We ended the 2008 Catalyst Road Trip with highlights that were amazing on SOOO many levels - from seeing previously disconnected church leaders in Nashville connect on a heart and mission level in Nashville, TN (and this brief comment doesn't even come close to doing justice to what is in the works right now between Emaus Church and Crosspoint Church in Nashville) to having an opportuntiy to take our first ever helicpoter ride with Alan Bracken, a man using his paving compnay to change the face of his communiyt.  Paving?!  Yes, absolutely.  it was an amazing trip...check out some of our pictures.

First up, our visit to Oklahoma City where we met with the President of Mid-America Christian University, our official 2008 Catalyst Road Trip Sponsor:

  • Alan & Amanda are using their paving company to change the face of their community.  They were recently awarded Equipment World's Contractor of the Year Award, evidence of what kind of impact they are having in their community, and now, across the country.  Simply an amazing story...
