The Catalyst Road Trip - A Look Back & What’s Next???

June 22, 2009

A Look Back...
It was supposed to last only 4 months.  It turned into 10 months...and then the Catalyst Road Trip headed west to set the stage for the first ever Catalyst West Coast experience in Southern California.  18 months later we are looking back at the overwhelming success of an adventure designed to pioneer a relational connection with the front line of Church in America.  Here is a snapshot of The Catalyst Road Trip:

  • 18 Months
  • 31 States
  • 45,000 Miles
  • 6 Snow Storms
  • 2 Major Hurricanes
  • Over 2,300 gallons of gasoline
  • 14 Honorary Vanagon Vagabonds (friends who joined me on the road)
  • Unofficially spoinsored by Red Bull, David Sunflower Seeds, & Subway Wraps

The Catalyst Road Trip has established itself as an initiative unlike any other.  With an exclusive focus on building relationships and face-to-face connections with leaders on the front line of the Church we have had the chance to catch a glimpse of what God is doing around the country.  We have seen community developed across denominational lines, uncovered quality content and leadership insight from unlikely sources in unexpected areas, furthered our friendships with authors & speakers you have come to know and love, AND shared the adventure via our blog, twitter, flickr, vimeo, and facebook.

What's Next???
The vision continues...what began as a road trip reaching as far as our 1985 VW Vanagon would allow us has now matured into a Delta Airlines powered National Tour quickly reaching strategic cities, areas, and leaders that would have otherwise taken us weeks and months to reach.  Flying from one city to the next will allow for even more connection points among influencers in the church…and the opportunity to focus our energy into our meetings with these leaders rather than exhausting ourselves “getting to” these meetings.  :)

Where will the Catalyst National Tour land next?  Who will we meet?  Stay tuned.  The next chapter begins...now.

(plans are being finalized for our next trip (Chicago) to be set during second week of July, more soon)

Payne Stewart - The Legacy of a Father…

June 21, 2009

Maybe it's because I love watching golf and have been dialied in on the U.S. Open this weekend in New York...maybe it's because I grew up watching that guy in the crazy colored knickers and remember his stunning vicotry at Pinehurst No. 2 ten years ago to this day...or maybe it's because when I think about Father's Day I wrestle through my own emotions of loss and am sensitive to what this day might mean for anyone else who doesn't have a dad to wish Happy Father's Day.

Regardless of why, when I remember Payne Stewart and hear of the legacy he left I am faced wtih a raw perspective on the powerful role of the father.  Here is a look back at Payne Stewart and his legacy...

Happy Father's Day from the Catalyst Team.

Anything Short of Sin

June 19, 2009

CatalystLeader: "We will do anything short of sin to introduce people to God" - @craiggroeschel

mjirmler: @CatalystLeader This is a "Robin Hood" type philosophy that is leading Christians astray. The end doesn't justify the means my friend.

Let's discuss this. The end doesn't justify the means. Amen! What's wrong with doing anything short of sin to introduce people to God? Is this philosophy leading Christians astray? If so, that's bad!

What do you think?
Have you seen this philosophy be a good thing or a bad thing for the Church? Give an example if possible.
