Who Needs Christ?

August 04, 2009

Christians are called to be Salt and Light. We are called to exhibit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, etc. Christians are called to love their neighbor, to be unified and to be known by our love for one another.

In our dark, selfish, money & pleasure driven, depression and anxiety filled culture - we are to stand-out as lights of hope.

That's why it's troubling when outsiders interact with Christians and see no difference in us. Sure, most of us don't cuss, drink or do drugs - but that's a far cry from the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. As a result, non-Christians see no need for Christ. They don't want to be like us, because, to them, we're just self-righteous pharisees.

If we want to win the world for Christ - if we want to expand the Kingdom - then it will take a lot more than apologetics and not cussing. We must do as Jesus said "love God and love your neighbor." We'll need to lose our life for His sake. We'll need to live so radically for other people, seeking first the Kingdom, walking in humility, love, grace & unity - that outsiders can't help but respect the way we live our lives, even if they disagree and reject God.

Just going to church and "not sinning" is not what it's about.

Let's take Jesus at His word. Let's focus on loving God, and sacrificially loving one another. Perhaps He's right, that if we give-up what we want, and live our life for Him, we'll actually find the life we've been looking for. Then outsiders will really want to know about this "Jesus" we speak of.
