We’re On the Same Team: 3 Suggestions for Inter-Church Collaboration

November 19, 2009

There are 112 instances of the word "church" in the bible.

Most of them refer to "The Church" as the entire body of believers.

Somewhere along the way some leaders have gotten the idea that churches are in competition with each other - that it's about growing their event bigger than other churches.

Really the goal is to make disciples and teach them to be like Jesus (Matthew 28) (perhaps this is debatable. If so, that's for another post)

So, if that's the goal, it would help for us to work together - like the Army, or a football team. How can the body be successful if the foot is not coordinated with the knee? How can we win if we're all going in different directions, working against each other, duplicating effort, ignoring each other, etc. We look a lot less like a family and more like local small businesses competeing with one another.

Is this true? Does this concern you? If so, how can we address this?

Here are some ideas:

1) Have lunch with other local pastors & Christian leaders. Love them & pray with them.
2) Discuss plans and goals with other local pastors. Ask for help and help them. Collaborate where possible.
3) Share resources: equipment, rooms, money, etc.

Remember, it's not about building your name or your thing. It's about building the Kingdom. The Church is not like competing businesses. We are all working together toward the same goal. It helps us to share information, resources, staff, credit, projects, etc. In fact, it may be a sin not to.

Thoughts?

The Best Way to Encourage your Team

This is not the best way to encourage your team:

'LeaderSkilz' - Encouragement from The Soderquist Center on Vimeo.

As a leader, it's important to communicate to your team members that you appreciatte them and that they're contribution is valuable.

How do you do this in your organization? Or how would you like it to be done?

Great Moment From Catalyst One Day…

November 17, 2009

Some of the greatest moments during any Catalyst event happen backstage.  Yesterday's Catalyst One Day in Baltimore featured an unexpected moment of worship with the FEE Band joined by our very own Brad Lomenick.  FEE is notorious for unexpected moments of worship captured on video...as evidenced by their visit to Montgomery, AL.  Enjoy...

Switchfoot: An Interview with Jon Foreman

November 16, 2009

Jon Foreman

Our friends over at Trap Door Sun recently interviewd Jon Foreman, front man of the popular pop band Switchfoot.

Here's a little snippy-snip:

TDS: Do you feel obligated to leverage your celebrity to "do good" within the greater culture? Should celebrities be held to a higher standard?

FOREMAN: Celebrity is a currency with an exchange rate almost as strong as anonymity. All are called to goodness; much is required of all of us. Every day you're alive you change the world. Our culture is disproportionally drawn to the stage and screen like a moth to the flame. We see the flicker of the spotlight and assume that worth and value are held within it's glow. The truth is what happens behind closed doors when no one's watching. Who are you when the lights are out? This is your legacy. The things that are done in secret, whispered in dark alleys—shout em from the rooftops.

Catch the full interview here - including two Switchfoot music videos!
