Two New Blips On Your Conference Radar…

November 09, 2009

It's exciting to share new opportunities for leaders across the country...make sure to check out what Neil Greathouse and his team are doing with the first ever Dirt Conference AND updates on what the Idea Camp team are pioneerng in Portland, OR!

Dirt Conference - Little Rock, AK (Nov. 10 & 11)
It's the first ever Dirt Conference - how do you create something from nothing?  A lot of times, we see some amazing things being done in the creative world with lights, stage sets and design...that we think are just out of reach...and we end up bailing on the dreams that God has given us.  But big ideas and big vision doesn't always mean big budget - and that's where the Dirt Conference comes in.  God breathed life into the dust & dirt of the earth and made man....so we've got his creative nature inside of us!  VIDEO

Idea Camp - Portland, OR (Nov. 20 & 21)
"Being Present With The City." - This particular Idea Camp will focus on the topics of seeing our cities through the eyes of God and expressing love by being present in practical ways. The umbrella of being present encompasses themes of walking with and serving our neighbors as opposed to doing ministry to them. As primarily a faith-based conference, there will be an on-going focus on the importance of respectfully listening to the communities we live in, collaborating across faith traditions to pray and serve, and embracing our communities’ issues as our own.

CNN Talks with Craig Groeschel about Church Online

Church Crunch posted this nice little video from CNN interviewing Craig Groeschel about Church Online.

Interesting how they do communion: just find some juice and a cracker & join thousands of believers world wide in remembering Jesus sacrifice for us.

New Buildings & Ministry

November 06, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion about the new $130 Million building a church has decided to build and relocate to. Of course there are opinions on both sides. Without getting into who & why I'd like to ask a question about this idea in general.

Some people uphold the idea to build a $130M building as a good investment (breaking eggs to make an omelet). Others think it's a bad investment (a waste of money). Actually, both groups are right ... from their perspective.

One group believes (simplifying) that the money should be spent on helping the poor, or building 130 churches ($1 million each), or a number of other things. Another group believes the building is a great way to breathe life into a struggling congregation, that money is no object to God and that the awesomeness of a beautiful structure glorifies God and gives the church credibility, and even more.

My question is, does Jesus or the Bible give us any principles or direction in this area? If so, what is it?

What Social Media Sites Do You Use?

November 05, 2009

There's a million Social Networking websites nowadays. Which ones do you like, and which ones are lame?

We use: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo & Flickr.

Facebook seems to be the gold-standard in social networking. You can easily share everything and keep up w/ your friends. However, Twitter is my favorite b/c it's the most fun! It gives you a quick view of what everyone is doing and you can quickly share interesting links. Something about the constant updates gives Twitter a velocity & energy that is really fun. Also, recently interested in Tumblr, b/c it lets you easily share photos & thots. And there's an app for your phone that lets you easily update it.

What social media sites do you use/like & why?

(Does anyone use peoplebrowsr or other tools to aggregate & manage all this social media nonsense?)
