Francis Chan is stepping out in faith…

April 19, 2010

Last Tuesday I had the honor of interviewing Francis Chan at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, CA.  I was asked to wait to post this video until today because of the sensitive nature of what Francis shared...

After 16 years of serving as senior pastor for Cornerstone Church Francis is sensing the Lord leading him in a different direction.  Despite not having complete clarity on what this means or exactly what is next Francis is stepping out in faith, something he has done for so much of his life.  He announced this decision to the church yesterday no doubt solidifying the start of a huge transition for both the Chan family AND the Cornerstone Church family.  The beauty of this announcement is that it comes in unified peace and hopeful harmony.

When I asked Francis, "what's going on with you right now, what are you learning," I had no idea that he would share all of this...needless to say the remaining questions I had prepared were thrown out the window as Francis spoke from his heart and offered a vulnerable glimpse into his own personal journey...

"I would be a hypocrite if I didn't go..."

Francis Chan - "A Different Direction"
Francis on his recent annoucement that he feels called in a different direction...

Francis Chan - "Fun Five"
On a lighter note, I asked Francis five fun questions from our twitter audience...

Why do I fear following in faith?  What risk is too great if the voice of the Lord is leading?

Francis, thank you for your tangible example of trust and surrender...

Catalyst Voices - Judah Smith from Seattle, WA

April 15, 2010

Judah Smith - The City Church

Part 1 of 2
The key to a successful transition in leadership is honor...honor towards the veteran leader passing the baton.  This "transfer zone" is absolutely critical for the health of the organization moving forward...

Judah Smith exposes the reality of this truth though his own story and offers a personal account of a successful "transfer."

(and check out the Smith family at the end of the video, didn't know hand sanitizer stings...or at least creates an excuse to be a ham on video! :) loved time with the Smith crew...)

Part 2 of 2
In part two of our interview Judah shares about the challenges of inheriting such a large platform of influence at such a young age...his honesty and humility is refreshing and invites great insight for any leader.

"Grace grows a church...I can lead from a place of rest."

(And Judah, sorry for crediting Joel Houston as the inspiration to your fashion!  :) If I ever wear a beanie like yours I promise to give you credit!)

Why Participate in One Prayer?

April 14, 2010

This is a guest blog post from Craig Groeschel, Pastor of LifeChurch.tvone prayer

If you’re trying to decide whether your church should take part in One Prayer, I wanted to share some potential benefits:

  • People who don’t go to church take notice when churches bicker and tear each other down. You can show them something different with One Prayer. Instead of just talking about Jesus, we display His love through a unified and global biblical community.
  • It’s a great way to bring energy to your church during what typically might be a slow season.
  • One Prayer can help your people shift their focus outward through community service and outreach projects, as well as an offering to inspire generosity beyond the four walls of your church building.
  • It’s the perfect opportunity for corporate prayer and fasting.
  • If you’ve been wondering whether video teaching would work at your church, One Prayer is a low-risk way to try it out.
  • You can build new relationships with churches in your community. Team up with them on a service project or simply use it as the reason to reach out and make a connection with other pastors. You never know what might result from those relationships!
  • One Prayer is a chance for your church to experience something global. So far, churches from South Africa, Guatemala, Great Britain, India, Nigeria, Honduras, Australia, Bolivia, and more are participating.
  • It gives pastors 3-4 weeks off from teaching, while other great spiritual leaders bring new perspectives to your church.

Now is the ideal time to register your church for One Prayer 2010.

If you’re already signed up, we’re glad to have you on board! We’d love it if you tell other pastors about One Prayer.  We don’t want to leave anyone out that wants to participate.  Don’t assume that everyone knows…they don’t.  Please take the time to invite your networks of relationships to join with us all. We’ve prepared some resources to make it easy for you to spread the word.

I’m really excited to see what God does in and through our churches during the third year of One Prayer!
