YOU REALIZE WHAT'S IMPORTANT:
If you live in America, you're probably much, much better off than 90% of the people on the planet. When we're so comfortable, it's easy to get stuck in a pattern of living and spending that is all about me.
In this troubling economic time, many of us are minimizing our frivolous spending, focusing on the essentials. Hopefully we'll start to realize that we can live and be happy and content in the Lord without a bunch of extra stuff.
If we can learn to be content with just God and food and clothing, then shoot, we'll be pretty well off (ironic, huh?). Paul said:
6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. - 1 Timothy 6 6-9
SWEET! Thank you, Jesus, for taking stuff away from us and making life difficult for us! Please draw us to yourself through the economic crisis, help us to embrace you and be more content and effective in ministry as a result! (James 1:2)
