Pastor Craig Groeschel has a new book, The Christian Atheist. It comes out next week, today we're giving away 10 copies on the blog
Craig defines a Christian Atheist as "believing in God, but living as if He doesn't exist." Craig confesses that he is a recovering Christian Atheist and is very authentic in pulling several examples from his own struggles with Christian atheism and how to overcome it.
Andy Stanley said "In The Christian Atheist, Craig leverages transparency to force the rest of us to take an honest look at the contrast between how we live and what we claim to believe. Craig's vulnerability, coupled with his fresh insights, will move you to begin realigning behavior with beliefs."
Here's a brief excerpt:
"As if on cue, when I was twenty-three, God opened a door for me to work at a historic downtown church. My dream-come-true slowly turned into a spiritual nightmare. What started out as a good thing quickly became an obsession. My service was never enough. And as my love for ministry burned hotter, my passion for Christ cooled.
My mission had become a job. Instead of studying God's Word out of personal devotion, I studied only to preach. Instead of preaching messages to bring glory to God, I preached to bring people to church. I promised hurting people I would pray for them, but I usually didn't follow through."
This is a great book! We're giving away 10 copies today!
Here's how to win:
1) Tweet this: Win Craig Groeschel's new book, The Christian Atheist. 10 copies. RT & comment here: http://bit.ly/cKbGgb
2) Comment below with your twitter name (to verify step 1) & what church you go to (just for fun!)

My twitter handle is @umcpastorcraig and I am the lead pastor of the United Japanese Christian Church in Clovis, CA - a multiethnic (and multidenominational - interesting story there) congregation. Loved reading most of Craig’s work and really took to heart It. Looking forward to this one to see what he added over his talks at Catalyst.

If this book can help me be a better church planter I’d greatly appreciate it. I think I’m at the spot where Craig talks about being more dedicated to ministry than to God. I’d love to hear what he has to say about facing that challange.

I have three teenagers living in my house. They seem to multiply at times. Their views at Easter Dinner was astounding. The very idea that a book would come out with the title The Christian Athiest is a must to have in my home. This book could help us all to have a better understanding of where we need to be/think and feel. Please help us. Im a single mom and could really use this book in my home.
Comment by Cindy Avelar - Apr 05, 2010 @ 10:19 AM
And once more another huckster comes along and tries to hawk his own little cause celebre by making up some bs and then parading it around as if it were the truth. You see, there is simply NO such thing as a Christian atheist. In fact, it’s kind of blasphemous when you ponder it from a logical/rational standpoint. It’s like saying Jesus Satan worshipper or some other silly notion.
An atheist believes there is no God. A Christian believes the opposite. Just because a Christian isn’t living according to YOUR standards does not give YOU the right to put a tag on him or her.
But of course the moronic sheep will buy your book in droves because critical thinking is something none of them do.
Graciously yours,
