Compassion

February 09, 2010

(written late Monday night, February 8th)

Today I had the chance to visit Compassion International's headquarters in Colorado Springs...if "attitude reflects leadership," then Wess Stafford and the Executive Team at Compassion have soared to the top of the list of leaders I would follow.  EVERY person I met seemed to solidify an undeniable "family" feel in the office, and their commitment to freeing children from poverty is literally written all over the walls.  Either someone is mixing an addictive batch of "Compassion Kool-Aid" or the hearts of the entire staff have been pricked by a compelling vision for the least and the lost.  I think I will choose to believe the latter. :)

KenyaKENYA!
I have been waiting to share with you about an exciting invitation that came through my inbox several weeks ago.  Shaun Groves sent me an email inviting me to join the Compassion Bloggers Tour to Kenya in March.  After talking with Brad and praying through our focus over the next several months it became clear that this opportunity is a next step for me, and our team, to continue down the James 1:27 road.  So, I'm going to Kenya!  The Catalyst Blog will be one of several blogs offering updates and highlights to the trip and offering expsosure to the "other side" of Compassion's work around the world.

Do you remember Jimmy's story at Catalyst in Atlanta?  His life was changed through Compassion's work in Kenya.  I can't tell you honored and excited I am to join the Compassion team and see, firsthand, what the Lord is doing through their efforts.  Stay tuned for more info about the Kenya trip AND more from this week's adventures in Colorado.  The sun is supposed to come out tomorrow but something tells me the snow will linger for some time.  It should be beautiful!

  1. I may be like the guy who just bought a new jeep and all he sees are jeeps on the road.  It just seems the term vision and the expression “compelling vision” are everywhere.

Thanks for letting us in on this exciting opportunity.  Its a passion filled, vision driven opportunity.  Your passion is contagious.

  2. haha, I fully admit a tendency to wear out certain phrases…it takes more creativity to find new ways of expressing thoughts & feelings, and I want to keep pushing myself. Thanks for the insight Dan, and thank you for the encouragement.  can’t wait for Kenya!

  3. Hey LV,

Glad you have sense of humor.  Whats even funnier is I wasn’t poking fun… I love these terms… so both of us got a laugh…

I’m looking forward to hearing about Kenya
