Ryan Meeks from Eastlake Community Church in Bothell, WA was at a local bar with some friends enjoying one of their favorite local bands, Herding Cats, and saw the fun & energy of the environment...he thought, "what if we threw a party and did something special?!" So they did. They threw a party at their church last Friday night and raised over $170,000 to fight the global water crisis. They called it Drinks 4 Drinks, and in partnering with charity: water, they raised enough money to build ~34 wells around the world and provide clean water for ~8,500 people.
34 wells. 8,500 new people with clear water. Are you kidding me?!?!
Here is a short video interview with Ryan. The exciting news is that the momentum from Drinks 4 Drinks is setting the stage for their communtiy to understand the difference between being a "cause" driven church and being a "cross" driven church. Philanthropy is critical and can answer the needs of the body, but the heart is restored through far more than goodwill - it's the transformative power of Jesus that offers soulful redemption.
This is a fun story...and it's not over.
