KEY LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLE FOR YOUNG LEADERS

July 06, 2009

10"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own" - Luke 16:10-12

This is HUGE for young leaders! As a young leader, or human in general, there's a great temptation to stay focused on the doing an Awesome, sexy, high-profile project/work/church "for God," but ignore the smaller, yet important, details of leadership.

The principle is: First, be faithful with the little you have, then God will entrust you with more.

Are you wanting to lead the Children's Ministry? How are you doing at leading your family? Are you wanting to lead a church (and be responsible for the spiritual growth of several people)? How are you doing with your own quiet time? Are you wanting to start a cool new organization? How are you doing with organizing your own time and finances?

If you're frustrated that you haven't gotten to the next level of responsibility yet, remember that it's God who promotes you (Psalm 75:6-7), and you must be faithful in small things to be given more.

  1. This is such an important reminder.  Oftentimes we look towards the bigger and better when we have so much work to do with the areas where we currently have influence and responsibility.

  2. Great practical comparisons too!  Many times people say, “Be faithful in the small things” and then people are left to wonder, “What are the small things in my life and how do they relate to the bigger things God is calling me to?”

  3. I have never considered pursuing the “sexy” projects but now that you mention it, I am going to be looking into some of those…. :)

  4. The principle is: First, be faithful with the little you have, then God will entrust you with more. - I love this concept. It’s so encouraging and comforting. I’ve tried to live by it as I grew up, and it’s allowed me to have a more positive attitude about everything. It’s also kept me from stressing out about things, because I didn’t invest my time on things I couldn’t handle. I know I can be slacking on reminding myself about this at times, so thanks for the post!
