Missionaries to America

November 26, 2007

"As America goes, so goes the world. We shouldn't allow the Christian influence to diminish in this country" says Sunday Adelaja, who pastors the largest church in Europe.

"Adelaja is among a stream of pastors from Africa and other countries starting hundreds of churches in the U.S. Their congregations back home are bursting with worshippers as Christianity advances through the developing world. The clergymen see American churches as floundering - focused more on money than God and filled with stale preaching and sinfulness."

  1. I tend to agree, at least initially, with Adelaja. I remember Louie Giglio talking about Australia, too - and how it is just different there among the Bride of Christ. People are intense about their lifestyle of worship, seem to fight for truth a little moreso than the majority of USAmerican Christians, and appear more open to sharing their faith in a conversation-based format than we are overseas.

America, I would tend to think, is quickly becoming the Christian minority. And this isn’t entirely bad; I mean, praise God that the Bride is alive and well in other places! But on the other hand, we in these 50 states certainly would benefit from an evaluation of our hearts: it can’t hurt - or can it?

  2. I agree as well. The Roman Catholic church views the US as fertile “mission ground”. There are a significant number of priest from Africa, the Phillipines and others parts of the globe that are here in the states making up for the shortage in US born priests.
We can benefit from listening to the spirit speak in our lives and our times….regardless of country of origin.

  3. I have to agree as well. The common conversation among Christians is not about the greatness of God but their own interests. I’ve seen too many instances where people are given preference and position in the church based on their cash value rather than their character. But God is faithful, He will always bring out a remnant. I pray that America will turn back to God.

  4. I think as a full-time missionary myself, it’s great to have the nations come back to America. This is a total reversal from decades past where we sent so many to African nations, to places in the Middle East, Asia and the Islands of the pacific rim. We are so in need of a change in the current trend that America is running full speed into. The percentage of Christians per generation is dropping so significantly that in the emerging generation how many churches will be able to survive? We as the American church must turn away from using our money, our resources, and our things to make ourselves feel comfortable. We gotta turn around and sacrifice our comfort to reach those who now see Christ, a life with Him and living for Him as irrelevant. We have to realize that Jesus came not to give us building projects but to reach all people! Let’s build His kingdom not our “little kingdoms” in our four walls.
