  1. I love this e newsletter. However, this section is dirty. It caters too much to the celebrity factor in American christianity. It isvfertilizer for pride and competition. I don’t see how this is healthy for us.

  2. hi Brian

I don’t see any dirt in this section, these are hardworking people expanding the frontiers of the kingdom of God.
they are emerging leaders, there is a need for us to be aware of them.

  3. Hi Brian! The author Seth Godin calls these people Linchpins. They are people (in this case) that are expanding the Kingdom of God. Not only do we need to know who they are, as Shalom expressed, but if we have gifts and talents in their particular disciplines, we need to hitch our wagons onto them and expand their ministries.
    Hence the name linchpin

  5. Hey I agree this section caters to celebrity Christians… you haven’t put in the most influential church leaders I know in some of the areas of the world where the church is struggling the most - surely that would tell you who are the legends of the faith!! If we go by the measure of Hebrews, we’re unlikely to be able to judge from their “fruit” on earth who the real pace setters are.

  6. The hard part have been those times where I have been in the company of emerging leaders who have literally said…“Have you made the list yet?”  That doesn’t feel like a Jesus ethic to me but I could be wrong. Lists imply comparative judgements and for whatever it is worth the Kingdom has far many more non Westerners moving the ball down the field. They are too bust to self promote or be noticed. Just saying…

  7. I’ve attended Catalyst now for x number of years and each year I grow a little more torn. I know Catalyst staff and I know the organization’s intentions and goals are upright. But even knowing this I struggle with this “celebrity” vibe that grows a little more each year among the speakers and conference attendees.

I’ve asked friends if they would attend Catalyst if the headlining speakers were pastors/leaders they had never heard of and the response was, “no”. So what is Catalyst to do? Host a conference with unheard of speakers that no one will buy a ticket to hear? I don’t have an answer but I know the Catalyst team is always willing to listen to suggestions and won’t usually run from a healthy rebuke. So I encourage everyone reading this to submit their ideas and critiques….it’s the only way they can improve.
