Q IDEAS | Inoculating a Generation
By Skye Jethani

Church practitioners have been sent scrambling by the growing awareness that an entire generation is leaving the church. Many have attempted to answer why they are leaving, but few are offering solutions to stop the hemorrhaging. Author Skye Jethani says the answer might be changing the way we're relating to God. Instead of life over, under, or even for God, he says this generation should pursue life with God.

  1. Have you ever thought that this situation (young people leaving) could be not the church’s fault, but this young people’s own decision? It is not that the church isn’t relevant, or overprotective, or anything… they just chose to go because of the hardness of their hearts. And this gives me hope. If they can choose to go, they can choose right too. They can. They’re not slaves of changing winds, or their own clinging to culture. They can choose to be God’s next generation. I believe in them. So I don’t buy they’re going away childishly because of shallow excuses. We are facing a sinful prodigal generation who chose not to listen. But that also can choose to come back.

  3. Even though it has been up to the younger generation to decide, external factors are affecting them and leading them to that decision. The modernity and liberalization of this present time is somehow making the Church beliefs irrelevant to them thus, making it unnecessary for their lives.
